Drove to Georgia and out into the boonies for a short flat ride. This was the short course for an area tour so figured it wouldn't be too stressful. Not sure where the start was supposed to be and ended up just starting at a boat launch site along the river. Think it was downstream of a dam and powerplant but could be wrong as the water was low and didn't see any movement. Anyway the course was two mostly flat out and back stretches. Computer couldn't tell me which way I was supposed to go so opted to go downstream and hopefully finish with a view of the dam on the second leg. Just cruised down a couple miles to a bridge to cross the river and then continue back up the other side. Got across the bridge and hit a half mile of gravel road. Course description said it was all pavement but what can a poor boy do. Picked my way fairly slowly through the sand and rocks until hitting the pavement again. Course climbed slightly on the opposite river back and just went a couple miles until the road ended and returned. Debated on whether to find a route so I didn't have to go back through the gravel but finally decided I didn't want the extra miles today as still had a ways to drive. So picked my way back through the gravel and went back across the river and returned to the start. Second half of the route had a steep climb on a one lane road above the power plant. My computer was totally confused and proved no help at all as whether or not I was still on the course. Crested the hill but didn't descend on the other side. Rode back to the start and got out of dodge. Not much to the course. It turned out to be an easy ride as intended but really didn't have much character. Only saw two cars over the twenty miles so that was a plus.
