Rode a forty plus mile route out of Rainbow City, Alabama. Course started at an elementary school that happened to be in session today, so opted to start at a nearby city park. Had to ride a couple of miles to get to the start and headed out following the green road markings. Road surfaces were in great shape and traffic was light for most of the ride. Kept good speed over the gently rolling terrain for the first twenty miles before hitting the climbing section. Thought that the climbs would be also fairly gentle and was surprised when I hit a short eleven percent section and had to stand to remain in the big chainring. Had a couple more short climbs of eight percent before heading back to the start. I was tempted to continue on the yellow course when it branched off but decided to ride the longer version of the course after a day in the mountains that were always visible from the valley floor. Picked up a little headwind on the way back that was really the first noticeable wind I've encountered on my southern tour. Course was very scenic as it frequently passed near several lakes or perhaps it was a huge slow river. Turned out to be a very pleasant ride. Saw one other rider out today.
