Started riding from Freedom Park again today staying on the entry road as opposed to the paved trail through the woods. Got to ride through the Cranston's Mill Rd gulch as the first challenge of the day with an eleven percent downgrade and eight percent climbing out. After that there were pretty much only grades for a few miles until the route got to the climbs north of I-64. Getting north of of the interstate proved a bit harder today as the underpass on the route was closed for construction requiring a four mile bypass via the highway. Didn't mind it too much as the traffic was fairly light. Had to dismount and cross the abandoned bridge again. The trail seemed a bit more overgrown as the pine trees appear to have thrived over the summer closing in on the path. After crossing the bridge there are a series of small climbs most less than fifty feet that provides some great cycling. Didn't generate much speed today but had a pretty good time on the bike with a low average speed for the course that was adversely affected by the detour, walking across the bridge and a slow ascent back up the eleven percent side of Cranston's Mill Rd. Also lost some time going back through the trail section of Freedom Park as checked out where the trail goes after I usually get off it onto Jolly Pond Rd. Turns out it just goes to a local school and ends. Felt good on the bike with the humidity much lower than when I rode this course in August.
