Warmed up a bit earlier today and actually got to ride with just the bibs and jersey. Wind was forecast to be out of the north again and plan was to cross the toll bridge again and head south on the A1A along the ocean catching the tailwind and work my way back north in the state forest. Plan went as planned until I got to the coast and found that the wind was blowing in from the ocean giving me a crosswind for the entire ride. It was another open road day with a twenty plus mile straight to start things off. Was a bit faster today riding a fairly steady seventeen. Did pick up the pace when I saw a rider up the road about seven miles north of my turn in Ormond Beach. Chased for all the seven miles until finally closing up on him in Ormond Beach. We rode together through some construction before taking some shortcuts to the bridge that is the big climb in the area. His shortcut was far superior to mine and when I got to the bridge he already had a good start up the grade. Tried to tighten the gap on the climb but didn't gain much. Saw him turn off at the bottom and thought I might be chasing him again, but he was on a different course than me. He might have also had a better course as I hit five miles of rough road through a residential area before getting to the state forest. Had a good time riding through the jungle before exiting in Flagler Beach. Instead of returning on the Old Kings Road tried a new highway that appeared to have been recently built to service some new housing developments in the wetlands. Turned out to be a good choice as had a decent bike lane as well as a separate parallel bike path. Got to sprint a heavyset guy on an E-bike riding on the path. He might have had a bit higher top speed but didn't last long and quickly faded away. Sad indeed that I now find myself dueling with E-bikes but that's life I guess. Finished fairly strong as finally got a tailwind for two or three miles as I worked my way back inland. Ended up with a one long hard chase and a couple of sprints and quite a few miles of pleasant riding under a warm sun.
