Stopped in Radford, VA on may way to NC for a metric century tomorrow. I've ridden the full Wilderness century a few times as well as the metric course before they extended the course to make it a hundred miles. Its a fantastic century that has one mountain climb and a slew of smaller ones and great scenery. Opted today for the shortest course at twenty-five miles, since I still have a drive ahead and wanted to have fresh legs. Course starts at a park along a river and climbs out of the valley for the first five miles. It starts with a twisting bike trail before continuing on the road. The century has a steep wall to get things serious, but the short course uses a highway grade. The short course does descend the steep climb on the way back. There aren't really flat sections on the course as it is almost all rolling terrain through cow country. Wind was a bigger influence than the climbs today.
