 Taylor Loop
Took yesterday off due to clouds and cool weather as well as tired legs. Found that my legs were cramping at inconvenient times. Ended up pounding calories all day and little else. So today headed out on a long slow ride to burn some of those calories. Day started off cool but hit the road when it got near sixty. Rode the Taylor Loop through and around the Osceola National Forest. Had a slow four miles from the motel before starting the route which was kind of unpleasant as had to slowly ride a sidewalk along the busy highway. After reaching the forest though traffic magically disappeared. The course is a triangle with the first leg twenty-eight miles northeast, a second leg of fourteen miles to the southeast and a final twenty-seven miles to the west. An eight mile an hour east headwind helped with the slow part of my long slow ride. Only saw two or three cars over the first leg and kept a steady pace. When reaching the first turn in Taylor, I was hoping for fourteen miles of crosswind but instead got another ten miles of headwind. Final four miles to the second turn though was actually a much welcomed crosswind. Was happy to reach the second turn and pick up a good tailwind on SR 90. The highway has heavy traffic but a fairly good shoulder. Spent most of the twenty-seven miles in the low twenties aided by the numerous tractor trailers giving a drafting boost as they sped by at high speed. Felt good until about seventy miles when the legs started getting soft. It was a fairly boring ride with mile after mile of straight road mostly in pine trees. It was a good course for just cranking off some low intensity miles, and hopefully I burned off at least some of the mega-calories I put down yesterday. It remains to be seen whether the day off helped alleviate the cramping. It was actually a sunny warm day and wind was at least in the single digits.
