Took another long slow ride today northwest of Lake City again since I had a good time on the roads out that way yesterday. Wind was again in the mid-teens with occasional higher gusts. Had quite a few short sections again so wasn't facing the wind for any great lengths of time. Terrain was short of being rolling climbs but did have some rolling grades with occasional grades of three or four percent. A couple of the small settlements even had some form of mount in there names. Mapping software checked all the roads as paved, but it turned out not to be true. Tried to find alternate routes when encountering sand roads but wasn't always successful. Ended up doing a couple of miles on hard packed sand. Wasn't that bad as surface was mostly as solid as pavement but was a bit rough in places. Did a few miles of speed work including a dog sprint against a Black Lab. He didn't put up much of an effort. Lots of farm animals along the course today and caused a cattle stampede in one instance. Did pretty good for sixty miles then started fading fast ending up riding very slowly into the wind over the last ten miles. Did get some work in on my cycling tan. Roads were good to excellent with low traffic. Probably could have been better without the wind, but the sun and eighty degree temperature were very welcome.
