Original plan was to ride some hills in Virginia but due to the cold weather there skipped town and headed to Florida a day earlier than planned. Had a fairly long drive but had some time to get a ride in after I checked in a motel in St Augustine. Sun was bright and it was a comfortably warm temperature in the sixties. A fair amount better than the six degrees at home. One draw back was the west wind that was blowing at a steady twenty miles an hour. Didn't have many good options for a route and headed out into the wind towards the St Johns River. Traffic was Felt great to be out in the sun again after riding in the basement for the past couple of months. Made fairly good headway into the wind and rode about ten miles to the river where I turned toward the south and picked up a nasty crosswind. Rode a pleasant five miles along the river until I found a paved road that would loop me back to the start. Caught a very friendly tailwind across some farmland and had to ride through a dust storm resulting from tractors discing the surrounding fields. Got a thrill pushing the big chainring with the wind behind me, but it didn't last long before I had to turn back north. Had a few miles of rough road before getting back to the motel that hurt my speed and comfort a bit but it still turned out to be a good ride.
