I was convinced to try a short B-race this coming weekend, and so thought I should start focusing on developing some speed instead of burning fat. Plan was to do a twenty plus miles ride with a decent climb and try to hold a hard effort. Had planned on doing Jackson Hill -Ridge Road but slept poorly and woke up feeling pretty run down so opted for a milder climb up Fitzpatrick Hill. My schizophrenic computer nanny was recommending a rest day so thought an easy day was in order. Started up Fitzpatrick at a good clip out of the saddle and my computer nanny chimed in that I was in the green for a good performance today. I decided to go back to the riding hard plan and continued up the mile plus climb. Had good flow in the climb and reached the top feeling good but with a less than ten mph average on the climb considered to be a decent pace. Put it in the big chainring and started to push the big gear. Made good time and reached Millport hill with an over twelve mph average which is very good for me, but as this is my normal heavy south wind route and wind was light I can't crow too much. Kept the pressure on the pedals and got to Ridge Road at over fifteen and thought I might be able to get an overall eighteen average that I haven't seen for quite some time. Kept the speeds in the upper twenties for a good part of the remaining course down through the slot of SR 14. Ended up strong but couldn't make the eighteen. Had a great ride for feeling poorly at the start and was encouraged that I might be able to avoid being excessively embarrassed at the hilly race on Sunday.
