Another cool day with fairly light winds made for a good riding day. Decided on a longer ride up then down Wyncoop Creek Road. It's another ride with a couple of early climbs then long downgrades. Started out on New Odessa Hill with it's fairly constant six to seven percent grade for a mile and a half. Tried to keep chugging along maintaining two-hundred watts. Felt good after the climb and kept pushing the pace to the Junction then through the rollers to Van Etten. Had a good climb up the start of Wyncoop and kept pushing the sixteen miles of downgrade to Chemung. Got the average up to sixteen and thought I was in good shape for the next thirty but that is just another thing that didn't happen. Thought I might get a good tailwind once after the short climb to Wellsburg but continued to get a headwind though it was fairly light. Speed hung at sixteen for the next fifteen miles as I worked my way back through Elmira and Horseheads. Journeyed down Lake street that didn't work out very well as it was torn up pavement through a tough looking neighborhood. Will opt for Central Ave in the future. Finally got a tailwind once to Pine Valley and poured on the coals down the valley but had dawdled too much through Elmira and failed to get a seventeen again despite the strong start. Might try going the old route over Jerusalem Hill in the future. Adds a steep climb but avoids some less than exciting city travel. Still had a good day on the bike.
