 Ken’s Sunday Ride
Today I rode from the house to meet at Cleveland Park for Ken’s Sunday ride. Seven of us met at the entrance to the zoo - Ken, Mark, Don H, Steve S, Nina, Doug, and me. Nina is our new 80-year-old rider and Doug is a 78-year-old rider that has been off his bike for a couple of years. Ken was doing his "smell the roses" tour, so we stopped at several locations to learn about some history in Greenville. Nina was having no trouble riding with the group. We got off the trail at Furman and circled the lake there. When we finished the lake, Doug decided that he had enough for a beginning ride and headed back to town. The rest of us headed north to TR and we turned around across from Sunrift Outfitters. We stopped at the TreeHouse for a snack and met Don Y and Lynda M getting ready to leave. We talked to them for a bit and Nina stayed out to talk to them for a good while.

We went to the TreeHouse and Elissa came in by car to snack with us. I had a homemade snack from home that I ate outside, then I went in for a cup of decaf and I bought a blueberry muffin for Cis. We sat in the TreeHouse for quite a while. Elissa is always entertaining and Nina is full of interesting facts of things that she has done. She has lived a rounded life and participated in a host of activities. She has ridden Ragbrai several times. She was the world record holder in the women’s 50 mile run. She ran a marathon in 2:50 in 1981. She said that was fast back then but is pretty slow now. She was also involved in speed skating and speed ice skating. Don H is planning several rides and was going over things about those rides. Ken was showing pix of Steve Y’s car that was in an accident in Florida. Steve was between cruises and was hit by a man running a red light. Mark has been in Key West and just returned from a bike show in North Carolina. Steve S was making artistic plates while we were talking. It was a lively table today!

The ride down the trail was pretty nice. I saw Sam and Erynn B along with their foster kids on the trail just north of the cafe. Don H stopped just into Cleveland Park to talk with someone, while the rest of us made it to the tennis courts. I took Nina back to her parking lot where she and Marilin got ready to leave. Steve S and I headed over to Hillside Drive for the first big hill, then Steve turned off and I headed for the second big Hillside hill. Overall it was a pretty good ride.
