Got my new bike assembled late last night and took it out for a shakedown cruise today. This is my first bike with electronic shifting so the ride would contain a learning curve. It is also my first experience with medium pressure tires on a road bike. I have always understood that more pressure is faster. The rims on the new bike have a maximum safe pressure of 70 psi. Bought the complete bike instead of frame and individual components that I would usually do to get the best fit. This bike came pretty close although the handlebars are 2 cm wider than I would have selected. Will make me a little less aero but should open my lungs up a little better while climbing. Intended on picking up the orange course of the Bon Ton Rolette that would be passing through town and heading to Ithaca next week. Started up Old Odessa hill and climbed steady without too much effort as today was bike familiarity day and neither a training nor pleasure ride. Bike felt good on climb but the shape and reach of the shifters and hoods are quite different from what I am used to and had a little trouble adapting and found that the rear derailleur needed an adjustment. Adjustments couldn't be made in the field easily although not really impossible. I was able to do it with a phone app easily after I got home. Once through Odessa I abandoned my following of the Bon Ton route as it appeared to stay on the highway rather than take more scenic bucolic backroads. I chose instead to head to Mecklenburg via the Cayutaville Road. Bike felt solid as I pushed it up a couple of small hills and fast on a long straight descent. Once to Mecklenburg I continued climbing up Black Oak and descended into Trumble's Corners over Connecticut Hill. I took it fairly slow on the curving descents as really didn't feel too comfortable with the soft tire set up yet. Hands started to get numb from the new positions I was using from the wider handlebars and oddly shaped hoods. Finished off ride by returning via Sebring Road and a fairly fast descent down Old Odessa Hill. Really liked the disc brakes that are new to me on a road bike but had installed them on my mountain bike a couple of years age. In fact, the disc brakes are why I purchased the new bike as have found my old set up of carbon rims and rim brakes rather useless in a heavy rain. Also planning a trip to the mountains of TN in the fall for a century where rim brakes were not recommended. Relly like the electronic shifting although it was hugely expensive, and I have concerns about the durability. Since this is at least second-generation stuff I am assuming most of the bugs have been worked out. Had a solid ride and adjusted derailleur and cut fork stem to proper length when I got home, as it looks like this bike is a keeper.
