Despite the wind blowing out if the south I took the northern route to Penn Yan. Usually, I like to have a tailwind on the flat section along the lake but with the wind being light I opted to do the climbing section before it got hot. Started out as a slow ride but tried to pick up the pace after making the first highway climb out of Watkins. I usually try to average fifteen over the first hour but failed that today although I was able to average it after the downhill to Dundee. Second climb out of Dundee went fairly well as had a good spin with a slight tailwind. Actually, saw two other cyclists descending as I was climbing. Pretty sad that I only saw two riders on a holiday in the middle of summer, but I guess the glory days of road cycling are gone. Enjoyed the long descent into Penn Yan and then had a steady climb up SR 54. Tried to build up some speed on the return, but legs didn't cooperate. Had a good forty miles of riding and a final twenty at a comfortable touring speed. Really a bummer not seeing more riders out today.
