Felt poorly today and through I had planned on some hard climbing today, I saw early that that wasn't happening. I did the same climbs but lacked enough energy to push the pace and ended up just climbing slow and steady. Had an average climb up Jackson Hill and ever upward on Ridge Road to Seymoreville. Still climbed well but just wasn't feeling it. Saw a bad omen -an oil and stone warning on Ridge Road - though it wasn't done yet. So, I guess this is the official start of oil and stone season that strangely enough occurs at the same time as flat tire season. Usually hammer the downhill to Horseheads but took it easy today and saved some energy for the next two climbs. Felt good on the small climb up Hickory Grove and picked up a good tailwind to the next climb up Chambers Road. This was my first time climbing it in a few years as have been using Murphy Hill Road that runs parallel to Chambers Hill Road and both end up at the top of the hill in Catlin. Chambers is a series of step climbs while Murphy is a long steady grade. The new sweet pavement on Chambers though will put it back in rotation. The backside of Chambers is under construction, and they have road sections torn up to install culverts across the road. It used to be a fifty mile an hour white-knuckle descent, but the road surface was horrendous this year before they tore it up, so now it is a slow white-knuckle descent. Worked up some speed on the way to Watkins on the downgrade from Chambers but it wasn't enough to get the average up after the lackluster climbing. Got the hills in but it wasn't a very good ride overall.
