Back on the bike for a couple of steep climbs. Made the first climb up Stueben St by the hospital. Climbed steady with no heroics today. Legs felt pretty good despite the three rases yesterday. Toured down through Johnson Hollow to Millport where I made my first climb up Millport Hill Rd in a couple of decades. I had often passed by it, and it was often closed for work, and I found out why today. The bottom of the climb is severely steep and bordered by two steep banks on the sides. They have installed some really nice-looking stonework on the banks, as I assume, to control erosion. They did an excellent job, and it rivals the WPA projects done in the area in the late thirties and early forties. The beautiful stonework did not reduce my suffering as I had stood up for about half the length of the steep section before my legs surrendered. Saw that the Bon Ton Roulette had added this hill to one of their extended loops. There would me some glorious suffering in a couple of weeks. Recovered a bit after the grade lessened into a more manageable climb and was able to continue upward without too much effort. I was headed to Seymoireville that meant two or three more miles of eight to ten percent climbing. After the steepness of Millport Hill, it wasn't very challenging and was able to keep moving at a fair pace. Had a fast descent into Odessa with the usual spectacular view of the lake and valley below. Thought about climbing Foots Hill to add a couple miles and another short steep climb but opted for another descent into Montour via Old Odessa Hill and called it a day. Felt good climbing except for the one notorious section.
