Weather was quite different from my last attempt two weeks ago as this week there was a stiff north wind and the temperature was twenty five degrees colder. Warm up went much better than last time and felt much better in the drops. Goal today was to try for a twenty three with a failure being less than the twenty one average last time. Started out strong despite taking four of five seconds to clip in. Heart rate went right up from the start and ripped the first mile and coming in just five seconds short of a good split. Second mile was still strong and kept good speed with the tailwind and fell ten seconds short at the two mile mark. Slowed down a bit on the first knoll and lost quite a bit of speed that I wasn't able to pick back up before the turn around. Made the turn with an average of twenty-two one and felt that I wouldn't be meeting my goal after starting back off into the wind. First mile went slowly but settled in on miles seven and eight. Pretty much collapsed again over the last mile through the curse and ended up finishing with a twenty-two one at 27:07 which cut off over a minute from last effort at 28:36. A good chunk of improvement came from a traffic free turn around but still felt things are going in the right direction.
