After two days of fairly aggressive climbing kept climbing but at a more relaxed pace. Haven't done the Searsburg ride this year so gave it a go today. Started out with a north wind blowing in slightly cooler weather but still quite pleasant. Started out up Old Odessa and thought I had a steady pace and topped out at nine miles per hour. Headed up the second half of the climb up through Smith Valley and spun steady. Legs felt pretty good after the climb and headed into the wind to Mecklenburg. Had surprisingly strong legs and sped along the descending rollers and rolled into town with a thirteen seven average. It was far below my best average of seventeen but fastest I've done it this year. Backed off the pace after that and just enjoyed the ride through Perry City. Got to the climb up to Searsburg in Trumansburg and started the six mile ascent. Used to be a big chainring climb but was more conservative today. It is a fairly fast climb if you can power over the short steep steps. Only thing of interest in the climb was aa small group of teens or possibly twenty somethings having a ceremony at an alter along the side of the road. Assume one of their brethren passed there but don't remember anything about an accident recently. Had a long downhill before turning south and returning via CR 7. Only excitement was descending and climbing out of the crotch hitting the forties on the downhill and trying to maintain enough speed through the corner at the bottom to get as far up the wall on the other side before having to tough it out. Always get a quick thrill as I am always hoping the tires hold as I corner. Tried to put some speed on on the last ten mile descent from Logan and down Skyline. Wasn't able to maintain much speed as the legs didn't have much snap. Had some strong sections and some slow but wasn't too disappointed as didn't plan on hammering for a third day in a row. Plan on tapering off for the rest of the week to be in good shape for my trek down south next week.
