Still didn't feel like doing any hills especially with the hundred degree weather. Opted for another attempt at a reverse Sullivanville ride I had tried a few weeks ago to best a fifteen average and failed. There still is fifteen hundred feet of climbing but by doing the course in reverse of the traditional direction instead of doing it in eleven miles it is spread out over twenty-two. Started out heading up the valley to Horseheads and despite the pesky headwind I was able to spin out a fifteen average before turning out of the wind and heading north on SR 13 to the Junction. I was encouraged to be starting the tailwind section a mile an hour faster than the last attempt. Actually did fairly well on the six mile climb after scrubbing off some speed on the first half mile of above average grade. Did well on the one and two percent grade in the middle section of the climb assisted now by the wind. Legs did start to weaken on the final two miles that has grade more associated with hill climbing. Still got over the top at fourteen and a half and thought I was in good shape to beat fifteen overall especially with fifteen hundred feet of elevation in the tank and a following crosswind. Flew down the first descent to the Junction and turned onto Jackson Hollow Road and had to deal with some punchy climbs. Kept upping the average and figured I had at least a sixteen with a long descent on SR 224. Usually it is a forty-five mile an hour descent but actually had to go slower due to bridge construction and heavy traffic as one lane was closed. Was a little disappointed that all I got was a sixteen that I lost on the ascent back home but still thrilled that I had bested the fifteen. Cardio is good now and legs are finally getting stronger but still have too much weight to climb with.
