 Wyncoop Creek
Beautiful day at the start of the ride with lots of sunshine and a light warm wind. Wasn't sure how the legs would feel but found out quickly as I headed up Havana Glen. I was able to spin the moderate part of the climb and was making good time but ran out of oomph when I hit the steep section. Rallied over the top and finished with a 7.4 average. It was my best time in awhile though only by a few feet. Still have quite a bit of room for improvement. Since the legs didn't seize up on the climb, I pushed the pace to the Junction. Did okay in the crosswind section but was a bit underwhelming into the wind. Spun well through the rollers to Spenser and hit the climb up Wyncoop at a good pace. Rolled over the top fairly well and this time through it hardly seemed like a climb at all. Rode a strong steady pace to Chemung and stopped at the DandyMart for the traditional Vanilla Zingers and a Vanilla Coke. The zingers were delicious, but I remember them being much bigger than they were today. Opted to return through Wellsburg and Maple Ave instead of the new road. Made good time to Elmira with moderate effort but then got bogged down in a detour due to a bridge across the Chemung being under repair. Still felt good on the tailwind assisted downgrade home and pushed the speed up into the upper twenties and lower thirties for a good portion of section. Finished with a good time and probably could have been over an eighteen average if I hadn't encountered the detour. Was surprised I had such a strong ride without having a very high average heart rate. The recent long rides seem to be helping my endurance though I still need to climb much better and develop some speed.
