 Just aVery Slow Ride
Had to put on the cold weather gear to get an early start to avoid the wind. Temperature at the start of the ride was a little over forty, but when I finished the ride less than two hours later it was well into the sixties. Winds were also ever increasing going from twelve miles an hour well into the twenties by the end of the ride. Body has recovered a little but still couldn't get my heart rate out of the 130s on the two climbs. Started out up Old Odessa hill and sat and spun the climb with poor results. Caught a slight tailwind through Smith Valley and was able to enjoy slow tourist speed pace. Spun the climb out of Mechlenberg at a rather slow rate and was welcomed over the top by a brutal crosswind. Keeping the bike on the road taxed my upper body as much as my legs. It was so nasty I had to pedal om a downhill section to hold a speed comparable to what I did on the uphill section. Once I got closer to Bennettsburg the hills started to block some of the wind and the ride was again tolerable. Felt better than yesterday's effort but today was one of those, 'At least I burned some calories,' days.
