Had to take yesterday off as felt terrible. Decided to try the legs today with a short ride with a fairly easy climb. Headed up the valley into a stiff wind again and more ninety-degree temperatures. Had a good spin on the way up but arrived at the foot of Johnson Hollow with fairly taxed legs. Started the climb up a quarter mile of ten percent before the grade slackens for another couple of mild climbing. Really climbed horribly for a good chunk of the steep section and then the climbing legs actually fired up and was able to accelerate a bit. The first thirteen miles of the course is uphill then it's pretty much fast downhill for ten miles with one half mile of six percent grade climb stuck in. Got to the highpoint and things didn't look good for my fifteen average goal. Pretty sad that I used to occasionally average twenty plus way back last century on this course. Things picked up on the two-mile fast decent to Watkins. I was easily descending at forty miles an hour with the hard tailwind and made up for the poor climb. I probably could have gone faster but got tense and the bike responded by getting a bit wobbly. As long as I stay relaxed the bike is very stable but as soon as I tense up it gets a bit squirrelly. After the descent I had my fifteen and didn't have much trouble holding it over the last two miles back into the headwind through the swamp. Ride started a little rough but had a strong fun finish.
