Decided it was time to start putting some miles on the legs after a few easy days. Opted for a sixty miler with two or three climbs. Ride started out poorly as had to wait at the bridge construction for a long period. Got tired of waiting and went around construction over the new bike path bridge. It involved some riding through rough grass and loose stone to get across as the approach to the bridge isn't finished yet. Then it was into the headwind and the traffic lights of Watkins. Climbed Pine St out of the saddle and that got the heart moving and the spots forming in my eyes. Kept the pace up over the rest of the climb to Irelandville and when the grade slackened checked my average to see how I was doing as it had felt like a strong climb. Average was barely out of the single digits and figured it was mostly detours and traffic. Figured getting a good average for the day was going to be tough. Down hilled into the wind to Dundee before starting the next climb to Penn Yan over 14A. It is a highway climb with a half mile steeper section at the bottom and a lesser grade for another couple of miles over the top. Climbed well in the big chainring then soft pedaled the seven mile downhill to Penn Yan. Turned out of the wind in Penn Yan then it was over the ridge to Dresden for the last climb of the day up Swarthout Road. Felt good on all the climbs today and thought I would sail home over the remaining twenty miles of gently rolling tailwind. Made it half way before legs ran out of fuel and riding got tough. Felt worse in the tailwind than I had in the climbs. Soft pedaled the last ten miles with two of it being a normally fast decent. Got home exhausted. Had some good climbing and fifty good miles before collapsing though. So I was still was satisfied with the ride as showing signs of improvement.
