Another fairly good day for riding although it was a little windy with a strong southern wind. Intended to stretch the legs a bit today and started out with a good climb up Old Odessa. Didn't set any records and was hoping for an eleven average but only ended up with a ten zero. At least it was in the double figures-barely. The climb continues at steady lesser grade up to Steam Mill Rd and had a good climb aided by the tailwind and crossed the checkpoint at twelve. So had a strong second effort as a thirteen is near my best. Need to get the first section up to eleven as have done in the past. Had really good speed bursts on the way to Mecklenburg often seeing speeds near thirty. Think the hard riding in the race on Saturday has gotten my legs to get attuned to riding at higher speeds. Pulled into Mechlenburg at sixteen two compared to my best ever at seventeen. Immediately headed up the second climb up SR 79 towards Watkins. Legs still felt good and kept the momentum going. Speed tapered off a bit on the rolling terrain to Bennettsburg but still was feeling good. Decided to cut down Skyline Drive rather than descend to Watkins and watch my average drop through heavy traffic and a dozen stoplights\signs. Last section went well despite the headwind. Finished off with a seventeen-two average. Need to get it back up to eighteen but haven't been able to do that in the last twenty-five years. It felt good to ride fast again if even only for a day.
