After dinner, I took apart the crank and installed a different bottom bracket which was once on the Bianchi Castro Valley. Could not line the taper shaft so the crank side of the drive would clear the cadence sensor. So, I reinstalled the original bottom bracket -all cleaned and retightened, and it seems to work more smoothly.
The Nexus hub sounds like there are some loose pieces within. Tried to lube the hub but it seems the only way to do a proper job on the hub would be to disassemble the unit off the bike -more maintenance than I had time for today. And then anyway, the white lithium grease lubrication I sprayed onto the hub by the shaft seems to have made a beneficial impact.
A short test ride indicated all is slightly improved with the cadence sensor function, crank arms, and bottom bracket spinning more smoothly. |

Estimating the potential for experiencing a sort of virtual draft, I chose to travel Westbound on Ridge Road for the homeward commute during evening Rush hour.
Harnessing a virtual draft from motor vehicles as I pedaled along the adjacent shoulder with the flow of traffic, worked fairly well counteracting those strong westerly winds on the way home. |

Comments: A hot day for a ride but there is always a need to keep it loose.
Had a look at the ongoing 531 project at NY 31. I was able to discern the cul de Sac outline where 31 will dead end just West of Washington Street.
531 is continuing from Washington Street and merging with NY31 in a smooth transformation at Hubble Road or thereabout.
4.75 miles into the ride, I stopped at the Haslip house after seeing Cindy and Paul outside. Paul and his Father were working together on a project. Paul's Dad at 80, didn't look a day over 65. |
