 Murphys Ride
Plan was to get out early before the really warm heat rolled in and get a forty five miler with a couple of climbs in. Started out on a highway climb up New Odessa Hill and legs had no snap at all and were very heavy. Thought I would take it easy and hopefully the legs would respond better before the second climb. Ride improved when I found a quality open end wrench along the roadside. After another mile though my luck ran out. I had a quick blow out of my rear wheel. Got off to patch it and found I had left my spare tube and tools at home in my saddlebag. Tried pumping it up with little hope that I might have a slow leak and just keep stopping and pumping it up to get back home. No luck there. The open end wrench wasn't any help either. Only good thing was it was all downhill to home. I stood up and leaned far over the handlebars and coasted trying very hard to miss any debris that would trash my million dollar rim. I was able to unicycle to the downhill proper and jumped the guardrail halfway down the hill and walked the bike down the gorge trail that runs by my house thereby cutting off a couple miles of coasting and walking. Tube had a large slit in it but no damage to tire was found. Abandoned the road bike and took the mountain bike for a spin. Made my second climb of the day up to the cemetery in Watkins. Sweated profusely in the near ninety degree weather but ir sure beats frozen fingers and toes.
