 Sun Returns
Got back on the bike, at least outside, after three days of rain and highs in the low forties. Made it through the downtime without gaining back too much weight by riding the computrainer each day, but really enjoyed being back outside today. Did a sixty five miler with two good climbs and a late long uphill grade into the wind. Temperature started out in the mid fifties and rose into the upper sixties by the end of the ride. The cooler temperature at the start was actually welcome as I spent nearly an hour on the first climb up Mud Lake. Didn't push the pace early as didn't know how the legs would feel after the downtime but did pretty good on the lower section reaching the tracks with a thirteen. Still climbed well on the rest of the hill, but as the temperature rose so did the wind and picked up a light headwind on the climb. Crested with a twelve one which was a bit low considering the good climbing at the bottom. Wind also held be back going down Sebring as didn't break fifty today. Had a few more miles of climbing on Telegraph Road that turned out to be a pleasant section. Once I got to SR 415 I got a good tailwind as it was then blowing in the double figures. Kept the speed in the low twenties for the ten miles to Coopersplains though I probably could have easily pushed it into the upper twenties. Problem was worrying about the upcoming return on Meads Creek with fifteen miles of upgrade directly into the wind. Got bogged down a couple of times on the way to Monterey where the wind was nice enough to turn into a crosswind. Final seven miles was fast downhill and I enjoyed a good long coast to finish off the ride. Had a strong steady ride with most of the heavy heart rate riding coming late into the wind.
