 Arnot Forest
Forecast gave me a three hour window to get a ride in before the rains set in. Thought I could get in fifty miles of climbing in without too much trouble, since I took it easy yesterday. Legs disagreed as soon as I hit the first hill. Stood up on the first steep section and found out my legs had nothing in them. Then it started to rain. Thought seriously about turning around and taking the day off, but kept going albeit at touring speed. Once I got over the hill to Odessa the rain let up and soon was riding on fairly dry roads. Took it easy to the Junction and the base of the Arnot Hill climb. Caught a tailwind up the climb that helped on the approach, and my legs felt better on the steep sections then they had earlier in the day. Milked the downhill to Newfield and then headed up the Trumbles Corners climb, that wasn't much of a climb. Headed back through the mega-rollers on SR 79 to Mecklenburg then pushed a few miles of headwind to get home. It started raining again before I made it though it was fairly light. Legs were tired and spent a good part of the ride counting down the miles, but I did get a ride in.
