Stayed overnight in Radford and drove to the other side of Blacksburg, VA this morning to do a short ride before heading home. We rode a short section of the Mountains of Misery Century course, that used to start in Newport, VA, and alas is no more due to lack of riders. There was always a turnout of several hundred riders the few times we came down a decade ago to run the course. We rode the Clover Hollow loop climb then cut across Roaring Sink to the Mountain Lodge Road. Mountain Lodge Climb is around five miles long and varies between four and eight percent. My climbing wasn't too bad today despite tired legs and kept pace with Iron Doug for the first three miles then he was out of the saddle and away. it is a beautiful climb with good road surface and good views of the valley below. We turned around at the lodge where Dirty Dancing was filmed and coasted back down the mountain. Temperature was a bit brisk and cramped up a quadricep while coasting. Seemed to take as long getting off the mountain as it did climbing it but really wasn't even close. Did one more short highway climb to get back to Newport, loaded up the bikes and headed home.
