 More Waiting
Had to wait again to sign for the package and that pushed my ride into late afternoon. The sun was putting out a good deal of watts, and it kept things nice and warm. Wind was back again and as usual blowing a good steady stream. Rode the Mechlenberg route which would give me a nice tailwind through Smith Valley and some shelter from the wind on the way back. Spun up Old Odessa and didn't have a fast climb, but spun it at a high cadence and didn't embarrass myself too bad. Thought I would catch a tailwind up the second half of the climb but it didn't show up. Highlight of the day happened on SR 228 outside of Odessa when a passenger in passing car threw a box of some type of food at me. Fortunately the rocket scientist that threw the box was either a really poor shot or didn't properly figure the proper trajectory of a cardboard box when thrown out of a car window at a high rate of speed. Didn't see the box through but felt it graze my back and then turn and saw it when I heard it hit the ground. It was a fairly large box that still had food in it, so maybe it was intended to not be for me but just some normal littering. Thought I might catch up with the car later but that wasn't to be. As I firm believer in Karma. I hope it catches up with the miscreants fairly soon. Finally got the tailwind a couple miles south of Mechlenberg, and it was a beauty. I was able to get the speed up into the high thirties for a couple of miles and that rivaled the speed I got today on the downhill sections into the wind, Legs felt great and carried the momentum into the next climb and did fair well. Kept good speed for the rest of the ride but wasn't able to overcome the deficit I had built on the first climb especially after hitting the stop lights poorly in Watkins. Didn't want to ride to hard though either as it is race pace in the morning on the computrainer on the Hillbender course, The actual race is only a month away now. Another good day on the bike.
