 Single Track
New pedals for the mountain bike came in and so today's choice of rides was easy to make. Although the temperature was in the low fifties it felt cold and damp and the wind was blowing hard again out of the north. There was also a forecast for occasional showers throughout the day. Loaded up the mountain bike and headed up to Connecticut Hill to find some single track to ride. Met up with Doug who was going to give me a tour of the forest and show me where some trails were located. Last time I was up there on a bike was thirty years ago. He had a gravel bike and said he wouldn't be able to do some of the trails as they were to rough for a gravel bike but we planned on staying mostly on roads today. Started up riding up Swan Hill Road and kept climbing for a couple of miles. Roads were pretty messy after all the rain we have had lately. After gaining a few hundred feet of elevation we started checking out a couple of trails. Some were overgrown with brambles that gave me some good scratches. We abandoned those quickly. Found a few but they were hard to follow and ended up bushwhacking every so often. Some of the trails were shown on my bike computer, and we tried to follow the map as best we could. Ended up on the opposite end of the park from where we started and found most of the well used trails are located in the northern section. Ended up on the Tower Road that has the highest point in Tompkins County. Pretty much kept to the roads on our return trip that went quite rapidly since it was mostly descent. Started to rain over the last couple of miles but it was welcomed as I was hoping it would rinse some of the massive amount of mud and a little bit of blood off me amd my bike. Found the climbs to be very difficult and got a good workout.
