Temperature had dropped twenty-five degrees since yesterday and it had rained most of the day. Clouds still hung around and it looked like more rain and wasn't very motivated for riding. Needed to get my riding fix though so headed out into the gloom. Planned on doing another uninspired ride to salt point but then decided that waiting at stop lights in Watkins really didn't have much appeal. Rode the muddy trail to Watkins and headed up Old Corning hill instead. Got the climb in without too much problem and generated enough heat to be tolerable. Descended into Montour on the Coykendall road. My downhill ended up being much slower than the climb. Combined with cold toes and wet brakes and wet road made for slow going and had to ride my brakes all the way. The road descends steeply to Parks Hill road that then descends at twenty percent to a stop sign and a tee with the other side of the road being a hundred feet or so vertical drop. With the wet rims I couldn't really come to a complete stop but slowed down enough to navigate the turns successfully. Thought after the ride It would probably been better doing the course in reverse but the again it would have been concern about loss of traction on the climb. Ride wasn't pleasant but was at least more interesting than going to Salt Point and back.
